Postgraduate Diploma in Food Science
The Graduate Diploma is directed at persons who are interested in focusing their futher study on food science and its applications in the food and associated industries.
Thie objectives of this course are to:
- Provide students with a sound foundation in food science, microbiology, quality and technology.
- Introduce students to industrial applications of food science and technology and their commercial outcomes.
- Broaden the understanding of the role of products as food and for use as food ingredients.
- Increase their understanding of the specialised disciplines of food science, emerging technologies and the relevance of this to the future food industry.
The course consists of eight subjects (100 credit points), and is equivalent to the first two semesters of the Master of Food Science. The first or second semester of the Postgraduate Diploma in Food Science constitutes the Postgraduate Certificate in Food Science, which consists of four subjects (50 credit points).
Course Duration and Delivery
One year full-time or two years part-time. Coursework is delivered through a mixture of classroom teaching (all core subjects), residential schools and distance education.
Course StructureThe Postgraduate Diploma in Food Science requires the completion of eight subjects comprising 100 credit points of coursework- four core subjects and 50 points of elective subjects.
If you have completed the coursework but not graduated with the Postgraduate Diploma in Food Science you will be credited with 100 points toward the Master of Food Science. If you have graduated with the Postgraduate Diploma in Food Science you will subsequently be granted 50 credit points towards the Master of Food Science.
